WHO IS REMI DA SILVA

Oi, I am Remi da Silva Oliveira, Cape Verdean, born (and bred ) on May 18th 1967 in the little village of Figuera Dasnaus municipal of Santa Catarina (at Santiago island Cape Verde Africa) under my call name Borges, now named Remicillio or, Remi da Silva Oliveira, have one daughter and 2 little sons, Dutch nationality, and working and living in the city of Rotterdam Holland.

At the age of 11 years I migrated in 1979 with my parents and family, to Holland the Netherlands a small country in northern Europe.

When I arrived in that country I thought, "Where am I " special when I saw for the first time in my live snow, the snow was very exciting me, until I fell the cold which make me thought "I don't stay here any day longer I leave."

But during my life in Holland I have been for a several times on holiday to my home country Cape Verde, to the island of Santiago.

Inspirited by my brothers knowledge, who was appointed as head teacher (Shihan) in Kung Fu
(Wushu), I was already interested in Martial Arts at a young age.

When I decided to do karate I asked my friends what they thought about it, they all said: "your crazy", " its fighting ", "its bad to beat people"," you only want to do karate to be sturdily", "a gun is faster" and so on and so on.

So I doubted, I had to make a choice between myself and the advice of my friends, it was not easy for me maybe my friends were right ?

I followed my heart,  choose to do Karate I started with the Chinese martial art of Kung Fu, after 1,5 years I was looking, searching, trying out and combine other styles of karate which brought me finally to Kyokushin Kai, a style developed and founded by the Korean Mass Oyama.

I took lessons in 1985 in Kyokushinkai (the strongest full contact karate) at the school of Loek Hollander, based in Rotterdam, under the best teachers Shihan Loek Hollander , Shihan P.Voogt Sensei Vlado Haljer ,F. Alonso Moreno and many others.

After 2 years in combination with Wushu and Kyokushinkai Karate I choose to do only Kyokushinkai which is the best style for me, because this style of Karate comes as close to the reality.

It's also a Budo sport with 5 golden rules as with the other karate sports.

1- Perseverance.
2- Honestly.
3- Etiquette.
4- Self control
5- Charact
er

Most of this philosophy you can find back in the
Dojo-Kun

Already after one year training, in kyokushin,  I became second of Loek Hollanders sports-school, and again a year later I became local Champion of Gouda (a city in Holland)

Several times I was second at the open Dutch Champions, first of Flanders cup (Belgium), 4th at the UK open champions, first of Rotterdam, and champion in 1995 at the Dutch Open Champions.

Between all of that I did  kickboxing too, for a year, did matches and became even second in Class B of kickboxing.

In 1993 it was time to do examination for my first black belt (Shodan), after 2 years training and matches, I did examination for my second black belt (Nidan) in 1996. After this I studied for one year Teacher in Martial Arts in Amsterdam to became professional teacher in Oriental Martial Arts, I was certified in 1997.

I became in 1997 again Dutch Open Champion (had the title also in 1998). In 1998 I did the European Champs in Spain Zaragossa, the open US in New York, and All Japan in Tokyo. In the summer of 1998 I achieved my 3th black belt (Sandan) and started in September 1998 my own Dojo, dedicated to my little daughter Sidney, took the word Kai from Kyokushin-Kai and named the Dojo:

Sidney-Kai -

Kai means working together ,a little girl working together to help each other. A school where students working together, to help each other.

I became again in 2000, Dutch champion heavy weight, due to an infection in 2001 I could not fight for a new title (I wanted to  try to obtain a title in the super heavy weight category)
But on March 3rd 2002, finally my dream became true, as heavy weight  I fight for a super heavy  weight  title and I won.
I am proud to have all titles in all categories in the Dutch Open Kyokushin Karate Championships.
